       Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit & 64bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on all (Win95 - Win7) Windows operating systems.

Viewing Resources: Cursor, Icon, Bitmap, GIF, AVI, and JPG resource images can be viewed. WAV and MIDI audio resources can be played. Menus, Dialogs, MessageTables, StringTables, Accelerators, Delphi Forms, and VersionInfo resources can be viewed as decompiled resource scripts. Menus and Dialogs can also be viewed as they would appear in a running application.

Saving Resources: Resources can be saved as image files (*.ico, *.bmp etc), as script files (*.rc), as binary resource files (*.res), or as untyped binary files (*.bin).

Modifying Resources: Resources can be modified by replacing the resource with a resource located in another file (*.ico, *.bmp, *.res etc) or by using the internal resource script compiler (for menus, dialogs etc). Dialog controls can also be visually moved and/or resized by clicking and dragging the respective dialog controls prior to recompiling with the internal compiler.

Adding Resources: Resources can be added to an application by copying them from external resource files (*.res).

Deleting Resources: Most compilers add resources into applications which are never used by the application. Removing unused resources can reduce an application's size.

Resource Hacker is no longer being developed:
 I have been overwhelmed by the interest in Resource HackerTM, the emails of thanks, encouragement and suggestions. It's been downloaded many millions of times. However, I've moved on to other things and have no plans to continue its development. Please don't ask for the source code, I'm not releasing it, nor is it for sale. Colin Wilson has written an open source Resource Editor which may interest those looking for source code. Otherwise, Anders Melander has also created another excellent Resource Editor which is still being developed.


Known Limitations:
Limitation:
 Resource HackerTM was compiled using Delphi 3.02. When decompiling and recompiling Borland's Delphi forms in applications compiled with later version of Delphi, there may be errors in the recompiled forms if frames have been used to create the form. This error is due to new language syntax not being recognized.
Status:
I have no plans to recompile Resource HackerTM using a newer version of Delphi.

Limitation:
To reduce the size of application files, some applications are "packed" or "compressed" using an EXE compressor once they have been compiled. This has a side-effect of making it more difficult to view and modify resources. When a "compressed" executable is viewed with Resource HackerTM, only resource types and names will be visible but not the actual resources.
Status:
This is not viewed as a bug. The application developer may well have viewed this as beneficial feature so no "fix" is planned.

Faisalabad: Punjab’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed to develop the ancestral village of the late Pakistani talented child Arfa Kareem as a model village to recognize her remarkable achievements.
Various development projects worth Rs140 million have been proposed by the city government to develop the village, Chak no. 4 Ramdewali, PPI reported.
Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain held a meeting at Arfa Kareem Nagar and reviewed the development projects on the spot.  DCO Muhammad Amin, Arfa’s father Colonel Retd Amjad Kareem and officers from different departments were also present on the occasion.
The meeting was informed that a monument would be constructed at the grave of Arfa besides the establishment of a library and a museum in the premises.
The commissioner said that a Girls’ Degree College and Technical Training Centre would also be set up in the village along with the up-gradation of Boys’ and Girls’ Schools and a basic health unit.
The establishment of a playground, improvement of drainage scheme, pavement of streets, provision of potable water and agriculture equipment were also be included in the scheme for developing the Arfa Kareem Nagar as a model village, he added.
Colonel Kareem said that the first death anniversary of Arfa would be observed on January 14, 2013.

Arfa Abdul Karim Randhawa (Urdu: ارفع کریم رندهاوا‎‎, 2 February 1995 – 14 January 2012) was a Pakistani student and computer prodigy, who in 2004 at the age of nine years became Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP),^[2] the youngest in the world before Babar Iqbal in 2008.^[3][4][5] She was invited by Bill Gates to visit the Microsoft Headquarters in theUSA.^[6] A science park in Lahore was named after her, the Arfa Software Technology Park.^[7]

Early life [edit]

Arfa was born into a family from the village of Chak No. 4JB Ram Dewali in Faisalabad,Punjab. After returning to Pakistan from a visit to Microsoft headquarters, Arfa gave numerous television and newspaper interviews. S. Somasegar, the vice president of the Software Development Division, wrote about her in his blog.^[4] On 2 August 2005, Arfa was presented the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of Science and Technology by the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz on the occasion of 113th birth anniversary ofFatima Jinnah.^[8] She also received the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award again in August 2005 from the President of Pakistan.^[9] Arfa is also the recipient of the President's Award for Pride of Performance,^[10] a civil award usually granted to people who have shown excellence in their respective fields over a long period of time. She is the youngest recipient of this award. Arfa was made brand ambassador for Pakistan Telecommunication Company's 3G Wireless Broadband service named EVO in January 2010.^[11]

Representation at international forums [edit]

Arfa represented Pakistan on various international forums, and was invited by the Pakistan Information Technology Professionals Forum for a stay of two weeks in Dubai. A dinner reception was hosted for her there, which was attended by the dignitaries of Dubai including the Ambassador of Pakistan. During that trip, Arfa was presented with various awards and gifts including a laptop.^[12] In November 2006, Arfa attended the Tech-Ed Developers conference themed Get ahead of the game held in Barcelona on an invitation from Microsoft.^[10] She was the only Pakistani among over 5000 developers in that conference.^[13]

Cardiac arrest [edit]

In 2011, at the age of 16, Arfa was studying at the Lahore Grammar School Paragon Campus in her second year of A-levels. On 22 December 2011 she suffered a cardiac arrest after an epileptic seizure that damaged her brain, and was admitted to Lahore's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in critical condition.^{[3][14][dead link][15]}

On 9 January 2012, Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, contacted Arfa's parents and directed his doctors to adopt "every kind of measure" for her treatment. Gates set up a special panel of international doctors who remained in contact with her local doctors through teleconference. The panel received details about her illness and provided assistance in diagnosis and treatment.^[16][17] Local doctors dismissed the option of moving Arfa to another hospital owing to her being on a ventilator and in critical condition.^[18] Members of Arfa's family have lauded Bill Gates for offering to bear her treatment expenses.^[19]

On 13 January 2012, Arfa started to improve and some parts of her brain showed signs of improvement. Her father, Amjad Abdul Karim Randhawa, said Microsoft had raised the possibility of flying Arfa to the US for care.^[20]

Death [edit]

Arfa died in hospital at Lahore on 14 January 2012, aged 16^[21] Her funeral, which was held on the following day, was attended by theChief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif. She was buried at her ancestral village Chak No. 4JB Ram Dewali, Faisalabad.^[22][23]

Arfa Software Technology Park [edit]

On 15 January 2012, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the name of Lahore Technology Park would be changed to Arfa Software Technology Park.^[7]
